Braces are not just for teenagers. Plenty of adults could benefit from braces as well. Whether it is an alignment problem that was not fixed when you were younger, or your teeth changed because your wisdom teeth came in and crowded your other teeth, you want your teeth to be straight. Many adults decide that they would rather live with an alignment problem or crooked teeth than to have a mouth full of metal and look like they were back in high school. If that sounds like you, know that there is another choice. You can instead wear Invisalign®. Here at Eric J. Sadler, DDS & Associates we have helped others to finally have a smile that they love with Invisalign, and we would like to do the same thing for you as well.
Invisalign Versus Regular Braces
To better understand what Invisalign is all about, it makes sense to compare them to traditional metal braces.
With traditional braces, you will have metal attached to your teeth to correct the problem with them. The braces will slowly guide your teeth to be straight and to have the proper spacing in your jaw. They will be obvious each time that you smile. With Invisalign, you will wear an aligner, which is removable. The aligner is clear, so it is not obvious.
If you have traditional braces, you will need to return to our office from time to time to have the braces tightened. With Invisalign, you will replace the aligner. There is no need for a trip to the office.
If you have traditional metal braces, we will teach you what you will need to do to care for them when you brush. There will also be certain foods that you should avoid because you do not want anything stuck in your braces or on your teeth. Brushing is easy with Invisalign. You will remove the aligner and brush like normal.
One common complaint about metal braces is that they can scrape the inside of your mouth. That does not happen with Invisalign, because there are no metal edges.
The major drawback to Invisalign is the cost. They are more expensive than traditional metal braces. Ask your insurance company representative whether or not they will cover part or all of the cost. Financing might also be available.
Traditional metal braces are not going anywhere. They are often the best solution for those who have mouths that are still growing. Also, Invisalign may not be the right choice if the issue that needs to be corrected is on the more serious side.
Still, Invisalign is a great way for many people who would not consider traditional braces to have a better smile.
